Here in Spokane, St. Patrick’s Day is a BIG deal! This year marks the 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, which marches through downtown midday on Saturday, March 16th. Sponsored by The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the parade route is aptly marked by painted shamrocks. Each year the parade provides lively entertainment and features everything from dump trucks to tricycles.
Want to get in on the festivities? It’s not too late! You can register the morning of parade day at the Spokane Veteran’s Memorial Arena parking lot (right across Washington Street from the Carlisle & Byers office). Details on day-of entries can be found here.
If parades aren’t your thing, another favorite tradition is watching The Angus Scott Pipe Band. They may not be Irish, but it’s all Gaelic! This is a group of dedicated members specializing in Scottish bagpipes and drums, and they sound fantastic. You’ll find them marching in the parade then, later in the evening, touring through some of the pubs and bars around Spokane.
Speaking of pubs, I would be remiss not to mention O’Doherty’s Irish Grille. This is THE place in Spokane for traditional Irish faire and great spirits. Bangers and Mash anyone?
So, what are you waiting for Spokane? Get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day!
Oh, and if you’re injured drinking, (er, working) on St. Patrick’s Day…you know who to call! 😉
